Services: IRS Collection Efforts: Wage Levy

IRS Collection of an Unpaid Tax Liability

Unlike any other creditor, the IRS has unprecedented power over you to collect unpaid taxes, including IRS interest and penalties, simply by serving a piece of paper on your employer. This is called a wage levy.

An IRS revenue officer uses Form 668-W, Notice of Levy on Wages, Salary and Other Income to collect unpaid taxes. Basically, using the Notice of Levy on Wages, the IRS will take your entire paycheck except for the value of the exemptions you claim. You are essentially now working for the government and will receive little, if any, money in your paycheck.

If you are self-employed or an independent contractor, the IRS can issue a wage levy on the people that pay you. If a wage levy is served, the payor is required to pay ALL of the money due to you to the IRS until your IRS penalty and interest is paid.

Since 1991, Patrick T. Sheehan & Associates, Attorneys at Law, P.C. has successfully represented taxpayers facing wage levy and has obtained wage levy release, solving their tax problems. Our firm possesses both the skills and experience necessary for success when dealing with the IRS regarding wage levies, bank levies, and asset seizures.

Remember, a wage levy is financially devastating and immediate action is required. If you are under a wage levy, or have received Notice of Intent to Levy, please call us. We can take appropriate action to avert the wage levy, or obtain a levy release audit. Or, learn more about a Bank Levy or Seizure of Assets.
